Carrying Out An Assessment
Typical assessment
Go to Self-Assessment, and enter your username and password.
Once you have logged in your organisation and project details are
displayed, along with a description of the structure of the e-GIF
document hierarchy.
Go to Project Progress, this shows all the different topic areas
for an e-GIF assessment, along with the current status for each
one.
Select a topic area that you'd like to assess. You'll see some commentary
about it. That's there if you need more in-depth information before
doing the assessment. Below each section of commentary are two links.
One takes you straight to the e-GIF documentation for that topic.
The other allows you to carry on and do the assessment.
Completing an assessment
Each topic area has a set of questions, with radio buttons. Select
the 'Not required' option for questions that are not applicable
to your situation.
When you have completed all the questions for a particular topic,
record the assessment, and/or sign it off. You'll see a report,
which shows your level of compliance for that topic, and allows
you to move on to the next one.
Progress report
When you go back to Project Progress, you'll see that the status
of the completed topic has changed to show the result of the assessment
that you've just done.
What you will get if you subscribe to the service
The service comprises:
- Up-to-date information and commentary about the developing e-GIF
as new versions and updates come through - a news and information
service.
- A self-assessment questionnaire - to help you perform and record
a standardised assessment for your project, product or service.
- An e-mail help service and FAQ - to help you quickly get up
to speed on the e-GIF issues that should concern you.
The example below shows the page of commentary for Interconnection
- Specifications:
Clicking on the 'See the e-GIF' button, will open a new pop-up
window showing the appropriate matching section of text from the
e-GIF original.
The example below shows the pop up for Interconnection - Specifications:

This allows you to cross-reference the original e-GIF text whilst
reading the commentary, so that you can get a better grasp of e-GIF
concepts without having to read the full document.
How does the self-assessment work?
The e-GIF commentary is organised into sections that match the
e-GIF original. An 'Add Assessment' button will appear at the end
of each section of commentary where there is an appropriate form.
By clicking the button another pop up window will appear, this time
with the appropriate assessment form for the section, which you
are invited to complete. Your answers will be recorded and stored
in the records for your organisation.
The example below shows the questionnaire sheet for Data Integration
- Technical Policies:
Working through the website and completing the questionnaire as
you go, will help you:
- build up a picture of which parts of the e-GIF are relevant
to you
- measure your current state of compliance
- highlight any comments or issues that need addressing.
As your project, product or service develops, a new assessment
can be performed at any time or an existing assessment can be updated.
Your subscription is valid for one year and any number of assessments.
The facility also exists to generate a full copy of an assessment
(even if it is incomplete) for hard copy printout and review.
Supplier Listings
When the limit of self-assessment is reached, the service provides
and maintains a list of self-nominated e-GIF-related product/service
suppliers. This is intended to be a convenient source of further,
perhaps specialist, assistance for those performing assessments
and an opportunity for suppliers to make themselves known to this
specific community.

Cost of subscription
An annual subscription for a single user costs £350 + VAT.
The cost of additional users from the same organisation is heavily
discounted. See the registration
form for details. You can use the service to assess as many
projects as you require for the period of the subscription.
We will associate each subscription with one principle contact
who is empowered to allow others to use the service under their
subscription. All administrative activities will be conducted via
the principle contact. We believe that the service fee represents
good value for money for continuous, essentially unlimited access
to a constantly updated and improving service.
